Each semester, we look forward to seeing all of the hard work our staff and students have put into our Winter and Spring Recitals. Our goal is to have the showcase be an enjoyable, exciting family event that teaches our students the importance of preparation, focus, teamwork and commitment.
We work very hard in securing a venue with adequate seating, that also offers a convenient time and location. Performance venues are extremely difficult to reserve, and sometimes dance studios must hold recitals on weeknights. In many cases, the venue is in a location that conflicts with school and work, and also makes it difficult for family and friends to attend. While weekend bookings do cost more than a Monday afternoon, for example, and require securing dates a year in advance, it is a priority that the recital also be convenient for our families. At 3-D Dance, we pay a premium to ensure that our Recitals are able to take place at the conveniently located venue on a weekend that does not conflict with work, school, or holidays, and that our performance date is secure almost a year in advance.
Below is a breakdown of the costs associated with our Winter Recital and Spring Recital. Costs are separated into two components – Performance Packages and Ticketing:
Ticketing Costs cover the venue rental (including the stage, classrooms and common areas) and the human resources involved in producing a smoothly run professional show (ushers, non-technical staff, backstage staff, dance staff), backstage entertainment for the dancers (such as princesses, snacks and craft stations), and the ticketing software. Other studios rely on parent volunteers to run their backstage areas. At 3-D Dance, we have a paid staff of over 65 people who work 12-hour recital days, so that dancers can stay backstage for the entirety of the show and parents can enjoy the show from the audience.
Performance Packages cover the individual dancers’ class costume, tights, accessories and protective garment bag, the many hours of human resources involved in choosing, ordering, sorting, and preparing costumes for distribution, as well as the creation of the recital dance order in a way that allows dancers in multiple classes and siblings to perform with minimal conflicts. Additionally, the performance package covers the cost of professional theater technicians (lighting tech, sound tech, backstage techs, etc.), and professionally printed programs.
